About "We will be heroes", Cairo, El Khalifa, 2009 – Aalam Wassef

Exterior : Three films projected in an abandoned space.
My, personal objects and belongings flickering at high speed.
Picturing What I’ll Forget, a month in the life of a man and a woman.
We Will Be Heroes, a music video by David Bowie.

Interior : A white wall displays thousands of names written in Latin alphabet.
Several bottom layers gather the names of people met in the course of a lifetime.
Foreground layers list, in no particular order, the names one would come across in books,
movies and the media.
Perpendicular to the wall stands a portrait of Marcel Proust, d’après Jacques-Émile Blanche.
Nearby, other personal objects are displayed.

All names written on the wall are read out loud in a pre-recorded soundtrack.

My, présente des objets personnels défilant à toute allure.
Picturing what I’ll forget, montre un mois de la vie d'un homme et d'une femme.
We will be heroes, une video musicale de David Bowie.

Intérieur : Un mur blanc est recouvert de noms écrits en alphabet romain.
Plusieurs sous-couches rassemblent les noms d'un millier de personnes rencontrées dans une vie.
Un premier plan liste, dans le désordre, les noms lus et entendus dans une vie, dans les médias, les livres, au cinema.
Perpendiculaire à ce mur se tient un portrait de Marcel Proust, d’après Jacques-Émile Blanche.
A proximité sont disposés des objets personnels.

Une voix pré-enregistrée lit les noms qui figurent sur le mur.
